What a long strange trip it’s been

Artist: The Grateful Dead
Album: American Beauty

Today’s Quote: Jerry Garcia
“I read somewhere that 77 percent of all the mentally ill live in poverty.
Actually, I’m more intrigued by the 23 percent who are apparently doing quite well for themselves.”
Jerry Garcia

Apparently, I’m in that 77 percent. Rats!

Penguins Go to the Zoo
A man drives to a gas station and has his tank filled up. The gas pumper spots two penguins sitting in the back seat of the car.
He asks the driver, “What’s up with the penguins in the back seat?”
The man in the car says “I found them. I asked myself what to do with them, but I haven’t had a clue.”
The clerk ponders a bit then says, “You should take them to the zoo.”
“Hey, that’s a good idea,” says the man in the car and drives away.
The next day the man with the car is back at the same gas station. The clerk sees the penguins are still in the back seat of the car.
“Hey, they’re still here! I thought you were going to take them to the zoo.”
“Oh, I did,” says the driver, “And we had a swell time. Today I am taking them to the beach.”

Now that the weekend is over and I have returned to the Hell where I whore myself to pay all my pimps. I’m thinking about what to do for my getaway next month. I hear there’s a place near Cincinnati that’s having an open house. I’ll have to find out more.

Subject? I don’t need no stinking subject.

Frank Zappa – Half a Dozen Provocative Squats

Today’s Quote: “It is said that power corrupts, but actually it’s more true that power attracts the corruptible. The sane are usually attracted by other things than power.” — David Brin

Striking a blow for the little guy — Here’s a guy who couldn’t afford real furniture, so he made his own from FedEx boxes. Of course, FedEx isn’t happy about it so they’ve sent their lawyers after him. If you can make functional furniture out of them, that says a lot for the quality and sturdiness of the boxes FedEx uses. If FedEx was smart, they’d use this to their advantage, good advertising potential here. Corporations are so clueless. He seems like a cool guy and he likes penguins. Anybody who likes penguins has got to be okay, right?

After a month of higher blood pressure readings, I’m glad to report that it seems to be on a downward trend again. I hope it lasts.

Where in the hell is my The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy DVD? I hope Rob doesn’t have it. It’s hard to tell what could become of it in that room. I know I’m missing a couple of DVDs. That shelf used to be packed tight with DVDs. I don’t mind that they’re borrowed but I’d appreciate them being returned after viewing.

The Eternal Darkness Of The Clueless Mind

Jonathan Edwards – Sunshine

Today’s Quote: The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining. – John F. Kennedy (1917-1963)

I saw this editorial in my online New York Times this morning. Those darned fundamentalist Republinazis are at it again. Now they are trying to turn a cute little documentary about penguins into a statement about creationism, “intelligent design”, and the usual rhetoric of Christian family values that we non-fundamentalists allegedly don’t have. One neo-fascist reviewer even referred to March of the Penguins as The Passion of the Penguins.

These people are the masters of reading hidden meanings that aren’t there into everything. In the editorial, the writer says that the makers of the film insist that the movie is simply a tale about penguins and that any attempt to divine a deeper meaning is misguided. Of course, we must remember that these are the same self-appointed defenders of the faith who search through Disney movies frame by frame to find hidden sexual references. Get a life, for Christ’s sake! Just enjoy the movie for what is, a simple tale about penguins. As Freud said, “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.”

I’m so happy that I finally found an appropriate place to use that subject line. I found that line a few days ago and I had been itching to use it somewhere. I knew the fundamentalist right wouldn’t let me down.

Don’t Fear the Penguin

The Chambers Brothers – Time Has Come Today

Ya know, that title sounds like a Blue Oyster Cult song.

“Here but now they’re gone
Seasons don’t fear the penguin
Nor do the wind, the sun and the rain, we can be like they are
Come on baby, don’t fear the penguin
Baby take my hand, don’t fear the penguin
Baby I’m your man.”

We need more cowbell. I think penguins would feel right at home in Dayton today. Damn, it’s cold, cold enough to test my frosticles.
