Rev. Rick’s Wisdom

Profundity and profanity, blasphemy and wisdom.

  • The dark side is a facade held together by an intricate web of lies, deceit, and secrecy. When that web breaks, as it must, it comes crashing down and destroys the innocent as well as the guilty. The dark side knows no mercy. No one in its shadow is spared.
  • A prophecy after the fact is pretty much useless, isn’t it? It’s like taking the condom out of your wallet in the third trimester and saying, “Oh, yeah. I knew I had this all along.”
  • It’s interesting that when you try something that gives you more freedom and you start to get comfortable with it, you don’t want to go back to being restricted again. When you return to that restrictive state, for whatever reason, you are much more aware of those restrictions and are anxious to be free of them again. This becomes more apparent once you discover that the restrictions are arbitrary, unnecessary, and oftentimes self-imposed. Then you begin to wonder why you imposed them on yourself in the first place.
  • For the self-righteous, moral indignation may be the only thing that gives their shallow lives any meaning.
  • It’s my belief that each generation should possess more knowledge and be more enlightened than the generation that preceded them. Sadly, in my lifetime just the opposite has occurred.
  • It’s sad when dreams die because hope dies with them. Without hope, you’re just an empty shell, merely existing while you await your own death.
  • Once you’ve experienced true freedom, you’ll never be satisfied with anything less.
  • Being pulled in many directions at once or in no direction at all has the essentially the same effect — you go nowhere.
  • True love is enduring and it does last forever. It’s unconditional and limitless although it can be tested to its limits.
  • To stop believing in what you do and to do it anyway really doesn’t make sense, does it? Maybe we keep doing it because we don’t know anything else and the idea of not doing it scares us because we desperately need the income and security it provides.
  • Religion obscures Truth.
  • Half-assed efforts yield half-assed results.
  • Maintenance is essential. Without it, everything falls apart.
  • The most difficult part of any journey is getting off your ass to take the first step, especially when you have no idea where you’re going.
  • Ever think about what you could accomplish if you didn’t know you couldn’t do it? “Knowing” we can’t do something often keeps us from ever making the effort.
  • We want our entertainment in full color, on a big screen and in high definition, yet we look at real life in black and white on a very small screen.
  • I don’t miss the person I once was but I’m liking the person I’m becoming. I look forward to meeting him.
  • Getting out of bed in the morning isn’t so painful now. However, I still dislike the idea. (a week after hernia surgery)
  • It is better to go to the snow than for the snow to come to you. Snow has its place but it’s not in my driveway or on the streets where I drive.
  • To take offense is a personal choice. One cannot offend without the consent of the offended.
  • What were once vices are now fond memories.
  • Your religious beliefs should never be imposed upon anyone … including yourself.
  • Do we stand by our principles and do what’s right or do we compromise our integrity and make a buck now? It seems like an easy choice to me.
  • From the stagnant pool of ignorance, rises the scum of stupidity.
  • No religion does not mean atheism but following one’s own spiritual path unbounded by dogma.
  • Having no religion does not imply that I must be an atheist. I am simply following my own spiritual path untethered by dogma and doctrine. I am free to roam the spiritual landscape as I please.
  • Who are the victims of blasphemy, obscenity and indecent exposure? Those who believe they are harmed are those whose beliefs and sensibilities are challenged by ideas and acts that are outside their narrow structures and comfort zones. The ones who cry out “Blasphemy! Obscene! Indecent!” have chosen to be victims.
  • As long as we are afraid, we cannot be free.
  • It doesn’t matter what you believe. What matters is what you do.
  • As a conscientious objector, I declare my neutrality in the “war on Christmas”.
  • Life doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s only complicated because we make it so.
  • Trying to move in many directions at once is the same as moving in no direction at all.
  • Genitals are for fondling, whether your own or those of others. But you should first get the consent of the one whose genitals are being fondled.
  • Just because you have the right to express an opinion it does not logically follow that you have an entitlement to it. Entitlements are earned. They have facts and evidence to back them up. You are not entitled to your opinion if you cannot adequately defend it. Without a proper defense your opinion is nothing but a wet fart blown out of your ass. An unsupported opinion is entitled to nothing except whatever ridicule the utterance deserves. Facts stand on their own while an opinion must be constantly supported and defended.
  • Repression breeds perversity.
  • Suffering may lead to salvation but ending suffering leads to liberation. Liberation is our salvation.
  • The problem with gods and deities is that they take on the qualities and the fears of the people who worship them – the good, the bad, and the ugly. Since people tend to manifest the worst elements of the human psyche in their god and they believe their god to be good, then evil becomes good when it is done for the glory of their god. Crimes against humanity are justified when done in the name of their god but become atrocities when carried out by non-believers.
  • We usually create our own Hell and should we find that the Gates of Hell are chained and locked, we must realize that we possess the key and that we are free to leave it at any time.
  • There was never any confusion, just a dark path illuminated by sparks of passing pleasure, subversive seduction by the darkness within, and decadent self-destruction with unintended but inevitable collateral damage. I felt delusion, pain, vulnerability, self-doubt, and insecurity but never confusion.
  • A secret is a terrible burden to bear. It is an anchor chained to your soul and it drags you down into the deepest depths of suffering, you and everyone from whom you keep the secret.
  • If your religion prevents you from doing your job, you need to find a new job. If your religion prevents you from doing what’s right, you need to find a new religion.
  • There is nothing special about Naked Yoga; it’s just yoga and you just happen to be naked.
  • There is no eternal reward nor is there eternal damnation; we have to make the best of what we’ve got in the here and now. Whatever joy we find and whatever suffering we endure, remember that we had a role in its creation. We make our own Heaven and our own Hell in our own space and in our own time.
  • Our species has a clear choice. We can either evolve toward enlightenment or de-evolve and face certain extinction by our own hands.
  • Conservative governments and societies are usually the most repressive while liberal governments and societies are often the most progressive.
  • Labels are too cumbersome. They usually don’t fit well, weigh you down, and limit your perspective.
  • There needs to be more gratuitous nudity on television. Scratch that, there just needs to be more gratuitous nudity.
  • Blasphemy and heresy are relative to your point of view and are wholly dependent upon the indefensible belief  you’re attempting to defend.
  • It is not necessary to be a Christian to keep Christmas or the spirit of the holiday in your heart. The season does not need a specific reason; it exists independently. So let us each celebrate the season in our own way and endeavor to keep the season in our heart all year long.
  • I’m certain there is order in the universe; it only seems chaotic because we don’t understand how it is.
  • I suspect that free will is an illusion maintained by the ego to prevent its own destruction. While I maintain that there is order in the Universe, I don’t subscribe to the idea that there is a divine plan or that our futures are preordained. Nor do I attribute events to the will of a deity or a supreme being. Our destinies are shaped by the laws of cause and effect combined with the ever changing variables of circumstance. We do have the ability to influence our destinies to some degree through the choices we make.
  • The present moment is all there is and without it the past and the future can never be.
  • It is never wrong to introduce a child to Linux. The child will thank you for it later.
  • I’ve observed that most modern technology is, by default, rather annoying and I suspect that it is that way by design.
  • Sure, Jesus was a radical and a heretic but because he died for your sins, you owe him big time and don’t you ever forget it.
  • Evangelism was probably one of the worst ideas that mankind has ever conceived and proliferated.
  • Surrender is only possible once you have let go of your fear. Only after you’ve renounced your fear and surrendered to grace, can your path to liberation be revealed.
  • The government does not, never has, and never will, have your best interests at heart. Those in power have their own agendas and will, without hesitation, sacrifice anyone or anything to achieve them. No sacrifice you can make is too great for them.
  • Freedom is not free. We all have to work for it and fully participate in it. Freedom is not given to us; we have to earn it and prove ourselves worthy to have it.
  • You have the right as well as the obligation to question all authority.
  • Ignorance is the true path to the dark side. To quote Yoda, “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” At the root of all fear is ignorance and it is ignorance that perpetuates the cycle of fear, anger, hate and suffering. Only by overcoming ignorance can we break the cycle and be free.
  • In a free society the right to not be offended does not exist.
  • No savior can save everyone. Some people can’t be saved, some don’t want to be saved, and some don’t need to be saved. Ultimately, we are each responsible for our own salvation.
  • Good intentions do not cancel out any negative impact that results from your actions.
  • A conversation that begins with the phrase “The thing is…” or “We need to talk” never turns out well.
  • One man’s blasphemy is another man’s truth.
  • Homo sapiens may become the first species on this planet to be directly responsible for their own extinction.
  • We cannot stand still and we cannot afford to move backward. Either you are moving forward or you are falling behind. Standing still is not an option.
  • We cannot return to the past. The past only exists as history and we cannot reclaim it as the present.
  • Nobody is superior to anyone else. We are all connected and we are all in this together.
  • Christmas spirit transcends religion.
  • Faith and belief can lead you to your path but only you can walk the path. No one, not even Jesus, can walk it for you. Ultimately, you alone are responsible for your own salvation.
  • I would rather burn in Hell with a clear conscience than spend eternity in Heaven regretting that I did nothing but hold onto a belief.
  • The very idea of racial superiority is extremely irrational. No race can claim supremacy over another. To believe you can is delusional and demonstrates your ignorance of your own humanity.
  • A blasphemy is quite often a truth that contradicts a belief.
  • “Alternate facts” are nothing more than blatant falsehoods and unsupportable opinions.
  • If “Alternate Facts” are actually lies then the “Alt-Right” must actually be wrong.
  • We are all soldiers in the war against nature, humanity, and ourselves. We are the enemy that we seek to destroy. We are the casualties. We are the prisoners.
  • Any claim of superiority by virtue of race, nationality, ethnicity, wealth, status, or any other arbitrary attribute is not superiority at all. Such claims are born out of fear and ignorance and can only be maintained through oppression and the use of threats and violence. A civilized person cannot claim superiority over anyone else.
  • We can’t wait for God to save the world. While religions claim to have all the answers, those answers are obviously not working. We need to use science along with rational and critical thinking to find answers that will actually work.
  • After the flood God said he would never again destroy the Earth with a flood (Genesis 9:11). However, there is nothing to indicate God would not stand by and let mankind accomplish the same thing himself through his own arrogance and stupidity.
  • There are no white people in the Bible. Every person of note in the Bible is a brown-skinned Middle Eastern man, woman, or child.
  • One can certainly be spiritual without being religious just as one can be religious without being spiritual. To be one it is not necessary to be the other.
  • Shit flows downhill. Rarely does anything positive ever trickle down. Positive change generally rises from the bottom in spite of the scum floating at the top trying to hold it down.
  • One needn’t abandon reason and logic to have faith. Rather, one should use reason and logic to thoroughly examine one’s faith. After thorough and careful examination, does your faith still hold true?
  • Why do we, as a culture and as a society, insist that we must to be protected from that which is not likely to harm us?
  • The voice in your head probably isn’t telling you the truth.
  • Sometimes I suspect that the real reason many people don’t pull their head of out their ass is because they enjoy the view and the exquisite aroma. It’s the only explanation that makes any sense.
  • Whenever anyone says, “I can fix this,” it’s a sign that the situation is about to get worse.
  • No one has a ‘right’ to penetrate another person with anything – willing, informed consent is a must.
  • I am not my penis and my penis is not me.
  • No penis has ever acted autonomously.
  • Great minds do not think alike. That’s what makes them great minds.
  • In America, unless you have declared yourself to be something else, you are assumed to be a Christian.
