Death and Darkness

“It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.” ~ Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore

Does death necessarily equate to darkness? Perhaps death actually brings us into the light. Many who claim to have had near-death experiences describe seeing a bright light and moving toward it. I suspect that death may be associated with darkness due to the darkness of the grave or the tomb which actually contains only the body in which the spirit no longer dwells. The spirit is pure energy which would be akin to light.

Then again, it’s quite possible that death and darkness are not linked with each other at all but are two separate things that many people fear because they are unknown entities. Those who have experienced death do not usually return to enlighten us about the experience (other than those with near-death experiences). Once darkness is illuminated, it ceases to exist and isn’t so frightening.
