The PC vs. Mac commercials really irritate me. “PC” refers to the hardware platform, specifically the Intel x86 architecture, which the Mac is now based on, making the Mac a PC. The rivalry is really over operating systems, Mac OS vs. Windows. The current Mac OS is based on Unix which is known for it’s stability. And Windows is, well, Windows. If you take a Windows PC, wipe the hard drive clean, and install Linux, you’ve got a stable system with a minimum of problems with crashing and virus infections.

Of course, to the hoi polloi, PC = Windows, which isn’t necessarily true. Technically speaking, any computer designed or intended for personal use is a PC (Personal Computer).

I’m a PC and I run Linux.
