It’s about time we stopped thinking of ourselves as a Christian nation and embraced the idea of simply being a nation. I think that should apply to other nations as well, no matter what their predominant religious persuasion. In this age of global communications and economics, basing a nation’s laws on the rules of the majority faith is archaic and detrimental to the nation’s development. Nations, as well as the people who populate them, need to be more tolerant and more cooperative but just the opposite is happening, to everyone’s detriment.
Faith is important to many and the rules of one’s faith should guide one’s own conscience and behavior but should not be imposed unwillingly upon others. We are each responsible for our own souls, our own salvation, and we must find our own way to reconcile with our chosen deity.
It’s also time for the United States to put freedom into practice instead of just talking about it as if it were fact. More on that at another time.
