Why 4 hours?

The adverts for Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra on the telly are unavoidable. I’ve noticed that they all advise seeking medical attention if an erection lasts more than four hours. Why is the erection threshold four hours? Are you fine if your erection subsides after 3 hours and 59 minutes but in mortal danger if it lasts 4 hours and 1 minute? Inquiring minds want to know.

In some of the commercials, the men say that they have diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol but they didn’t know the condition could lead to erectile dysfunction. OMG! He has a medical condition that could possibly kill him if he doesn’t take care of it and he’s worried that he can’t get it up? Has anyone died from erectile dysfunction?

I’m pre-diabetic, I have have high blood pressure, my cholesterol is out of whack, and I’m trying to manage all three conditions. Thankfully, I’ve been spared the scourge of ED which would be the least of my problems. Then again, erections can be a mixed blessing…
