Sometimes we take the Internet for granted until we can no longer access it. I was online this morning then suddenly, I was no longer able to connect. On my DSL modem lights were blinking in colors that can only mean something terrible. I tried to reset it but to no avail. At the time, I didn’t have the time to deal with it because I had places to go, people to meet, and things to do. I hoped that maybe it was a problem at AT&T’s end and it would be cleared up by the time I got back.
Well, it wasn’t and all the lights were blinking rapidly and in synchronization. I called support and Trisha had me try a few useless things but nothing was working. She started a trouble ticket and promised a technician would be in contact with me.
Later a tech called. I described what had happened and what was currently happening. He came to the same conclusion as I had — the modem was dead. He suggested I go to Best Buy and get one since the dead one was almost a year out of warranty.
And so, at 8PM, I made the journey to Best Buy and purchased a DSL modem, just a modem. I didn’t need all the extra features such as wireless and a router. I got the modem home, set up, and with a little tweaking, I got my router to talk to it. I was back on the Internet. Life is good … again.
I very much enjoyed my little getaway. I really needed it.
