Michael Martin Murphy – Geronimo’s Cadillac
Today’s Quote: “All the problems we face in the United States today can be traced to an unenlightened immigration policy on the part of the American Indian.” — Pat Paulsen
Today’s New York Times had an interesting editorial on illegal immigration, Our Founding Illegals. If you think about it, the Mayflower passengers were illegal immigrants. They had no legal authority to settle in what is now Massachusetts. Their destination was the northernmost portion of the Virginia colony, which would be modern day New Jersey or New York City. (And what legal authority did King James have to grant territorial claims in America?) When the Pilgrims established Plymouth Colony, they were essentially squatting on a Native American village that had been wiped out by an epidemic. Squanto was the village’s sole survivor so he couldn’t very well kick them out.
I just thought of a new twist for the Survivor series. How about Survivor – Plymouth Colony 1620-1621?
Geronimo’s Cadillac by Michael Martin Murphy, Geronimo’s Cadillac (1972)
The song has been covered by Cher, Hoyt Axton, and Manfred Mann’s Earth Band. I’d love to find this album although I believe it’s out of print. This is why we need file sharing networks. How else can you get music that’s no longer available from the record companies? They are missing out on a very lucrative market.
