Jethro Tull – Aqualung
Today’s Quote: “Your food stamps will be stopped effective March 1992 because we received notice that you passed away. May God bless you. You may reapply if there is a change in your circumstances.” — Department of Social Services, Greenville , South Carolina
From Microsoft, the BSOD screensaver. Is it possible that someone at Microsoft actually has a sense of humor?
One of the most feared colors in the NT world is blue. The infamous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) will pop up on an NT system whenever something has gone terribly wrong. Bluescreen is a screen saver that not only authentically mimics a BSOD, but will simulate startup screens seen during a system boot.
Oh, that will just be a hoot at work!
Wisconsin Votes Against Traditional Marriage
In an effort to ban gay marriages, they inadvertently invalidated 4,100 heterosexual civil unions. They kind of forgot that among the state’s population there are people who are not white Anglo-Saxon Protestants. Oops. Knee-jerk reactions and hastily made decisions often come back to bite you in the ass. I see amendments to ban gay marriage or explicitly define marriage as knee-jerk reactions to threats that don’t exist. But what do I know? I’m just the 200-lb. conservative guerrilla in the room.
I’m not really looking forward to going back to work on Monday. Since Sunday, my blood pressure readings have been much lower than usual. I haven’t felt this relaxed in quite a long time. I’ve still got the Blues but they’ve been much more tolerable this week. Yes, it’s been a good vacation.
Aqualung by Jethro Tull, Aqualung (1971)
Ian Anderson wrote this about a character he made up that was inspired by a photo his wife at the time, Jennie, took of a homeless man in London. Aqualung is a bum with poor hygiene. Anderson: “A guilt-ridden song of confusion about how you deal with beggars, the homeless.” The character Aqualung is mentioned in another song on the album, Cross-Eyed Mary, which is also a character Anderson created. This is Jethro Tull’s most famous song, but it was not released as a single.
