Excelling at mediocrity

Jefferson Starship – Miracles

Today’s Quote: “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” — Abraham Lincoln

They just don’t write enough obituaries like this – Frederic Arthur (Fred) Clark
Here are some highlights:

  • During his life he excelled at mediocrity.
  • He had a life long love affair with bacon, butter, cigars and bourbon.
  • His sons said of Fred, “he was often wrong, but never in doubt”.

This afternoon I watched Ringmaster on Comedy Central. It’s a movie about a couple of families that go on the Jerry Springer show. It was an interesting study of, ah, . . . Ah, hell, I can’t pin a name on it. I think it has something to do with the lure of public humiliation but Springer sums it up pretty well near the end when he responds to a “holier-than-the-rest-of-us” heckler who condemns everyone on the show. Ah, Amerikan kulture at its finest.
