What can I give up?

B. B. King – Sweet Sixteen

Today’s Quote: “Pretty Girls make people happy” — Colleen Coover, Small Favors
[And all this time I though it was Hooters that made one happy. Maybe it’s the pretty girls at Hooters.]

Clueless Express
Twenty-seven days and counting as I ride on the clueless express to our anniversary. I’m sure I’ll think of something but how do you top the McDonald’s Anniversary? I guess there’s always Wendy’s.

What am I giving up for Lent?
I don’t smoke, drink, gamble, or partake in any of the traditional vices. What is there in my monastic lifestyle that I can give up for Lent? I’m sure something will be sacrificed. Today I learned that carnival is Latin for “farewell to meat.” I have no intention of giving up meat. I’d rather starve! Oh, wait a minute. If I gave up meat, I probably would starve. I’m sure someone will determine for me what I am to give up.

  1. Maybe I’m easily amused lately, but the goldfish joke cracked me up.
I’m giving up nail polish, but I suppose that wouldn’t exactly work for you. How about fast food? Soda? I know you don’t do much of either anymore, but this could be the impetus to totally kick the habit.

    1. I thought the goldfish joke was funny too. I guess I’m also easily amused.
Maybe I was thinking on too grand a scale. Can I start tomorrow? I had lunch at Wendy’s today but I had lemonade to drink. (I’m particular about where I eat fast food.) Yeah, I could give up soda. Yep, soda it is.
Lent is supposed to be a period of reflection and penance, emulating Christ’s 40 days in the wilderness. There’s actually 46 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter but Sundays aren’t counted.
Passover begins at sundown, April 12th. At least Easter is close to Passover this year. I just had a thought. Jesus was Jewish yet Christians traditionally celebrate Easater with a ham. That was just a passing thought, pay it no mind.
